Aleksey Porvin
Aleksey Porvin is a poet, essayist, and literary critic whose work explores the intersections of poetry, politics, history, gender, and social experience. He approaches literature as a field of historical struggle and a space in which dominant forms of power, ideology, and representation can be questioned and reimagined.
His writing combines close attention to language and literary tradition with a critical engagement with class, inequality, cultural power, and the politics of representation. As a poet, Porvin is interested in forms of literature that resist cultural orthodoxy, challenge inherited hierarchies, and open new possibilities for collective thought and subjectivity.
For his contribution to Russian letters, Porvin was awarded the Debut Prize (2012) and the Andrei Bely Prize (2025).
The Andrei Bely Prize is Russia's oldest independent literary award and the country's foremost recognition of the independent literary tradition that has developed outside both the Soviet literary establishment and state-sponsored ideological culture. Founded in 1978, it has, over the decades, honored many of the leading poets of Russian literature, establishing a distinguished record of recognizing writers of the first rank.
As Editor-in-Chief, he brings to the journal a commitment to politically engaged, formally innovative, and intellectually rigorous writing, with particular attention to voices and perspectives that challenge established cultural conventions.
