Submit to the Inaugural Issue

The Rang Yan Review is currently accepting submissions for its inaugural issue.

We are an independent, non-commercial literary and intellectual journal committed to critical inquiry, international cultural dialogue, and writing that engages seriously with the social, political, philosophical, and aesthetic questions of our time. We welcome work that challenges established assumptions, explores alternative perspectives, and expands the possibilities of literary and intellectual expression.

We publish on a rolling basis, with accepted works subsequently gathered into our quarterly issues.

What We Accept

We accept original work in English across a range of literary and intellectual forms, including:

• Poetry
• Fiction
• Nonfiction and prose
• Essays
• Literary and cultural criticism
• Interviews
• Reviews
• Experimental and hybrid writing

We are particularly interested in work that demonstrates intellectual ambition, formal experimentation, distinctive artistic vision, or a critical engagement with contemporary society.

We do not require submissions to conform to a particular political, aesthetic, or theoretical school. What matters to us is the seriousness of the work, the strength of its voice, and its capacity to open a space for thought and discussion.

Language

We accept submissions written in English.

Submission Guidelines

Please submit your work as a single Microsoft Word document (.doc or .docx).

For poetry, please submit up to 5 poems or a manuscript of no more than 10 pages.

For prose, essays, criticism, reviews, and other nonfiction, please submit one piece of no more than 5,000 words.

For fiction, please submit one short story or an excerpt of no more than 5,000 words.

For interviews, please submit the complete interview or a substantial excerpt.

If your submission does not fit these categories or exceeds these limits, you are welcome to contact us before submitting.

Please include your name, email address, a brief biographical note, and the title of your work in the document.

Simultaneous Submissions

We accept simultaneous submissions. However, please notify us immediately if your work is accepted for publication elsewhere.

Response Time

We aim to respond to submissions within 1 month. Please do not query us about the status of your submission before this period has elapsed.

Due to the volume of submissions we may receive, we are unfortunately unable to provide individual feedback on work we cannot accept.

Fees and Payment

There is no submission fee.

The Rang Yan Review is an independent, non-commercial literary and intellectual journal. We operate without institutional or commercial funding and currently do not pay contributors for published work.

We believe that the journal can function as a shared cultural space built through intellectual and creative solidarity rather than as a commercial marketplace. Publication in The Rang Yan Review is therefore offered as an opportunity to participate in an independent international literary and intellectual project.

Originality

Unless otherwise agreed with the editors, we prefer previously unpublished work.

By submitting, you confirm that the work is your own and that you have the right to submit it for publication.

Our Editorial Approach

The Rang Yan Review is interested in literature and thought as forms of engagement with the world.

We welcome work that takes risks, questions dominant narratives, crosses disciplinary boundaries, and creates connections between literature, politics, philosophy, culture, and everyday life. We are open to both established and emerging writers and to work that does not fit comfortably within conventional literary categories.

Above all, we are looking for writing with a distinctive voice, intellectual vitality, and a genuine reason to exist.
