Spears, André
Experimental poet and writer in New York. Born and raised in the city, he has lived in Greenwich Village since the late 1970s. He holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from NYU, on the emergence of deep time and the pressure of archaeological discovery on literature, and studied with Gilles Deleuze, Roland Barthes, and Jacques Derrida. His books include Xo: A Tale for the New Atlantis, Shrinkrap: Litany in Quadraphony, and From the Lost Land: Schizo-poem (Station Hill, 2025). Co-founder of the Gloucester Writers Center and former director of the Maud/Olson Library, he was a senior editor at Dispatches from the Poetry Wars. Work of his appears in the anthology Resist Much / Obey Little.
